for everyone

Hello Folks,

I wanted to say, just in case I vanish all of a sudden you will know it is because I am having more computer problems and have had to reinstall my operating system which is something I am dreading.  It all started since I had the Mozilla update and I have uninstalled this program and re installed it then it works for so long then stops working.  I was in gmail, and I tried to get into multiply and the program just closed on me.  I am being forced to use Inernet Explorer, and anyone who knows me will tell you that I have to be desperate to use this.

I have a lot of programs which I downloaded from giveaway of the day and once installed I cannot reinstall them again, hence my reluctance to do an install of my operating system.

If anyone has any suggestions what could be the fault, I would be only too happy to hear them.

Thank you I shall keep you informed what is happening.

Paula

Paula...I'm sure I got that same Mozilla Firefox update, and it didn't affect my system. It has to be something that was on your computer, that came in conflict with the update. The question is: what? Have the previous updates been acting OK? Did you have those "giveaway of the day" programs on, before you did the update? Not saying these are the cause, just a guess. What do these "giveaways" offer you?

I'm sorry to hear of your continued problems. I have internet explorer and never used anything else to make a comparison. I hope you don't use Larry's hammer on your computer. Try to have a better day.

Gil I have never had any other problems with Mozilla until the update.
Everything went wrong when that happened.
I have a friend who had no problems either but many people have had problems. Whenever I try to open multiply the program vanishes off the screen. I have wasted so much time with it. No I havent downloaded any giveaways for a long time now, so it is not that. I am using Internet Explorer, it affects yoru avatar....dont understand why. I have also checked the registry....there have been a lot of errors.

Paula...well, then the problem seems to be THIS Firefox update. From what you say, I guess that rules out the "giveaways". You probably had some on your computer, for the other Firefox updates...and everything was OK. Can you think of "anything" (new) you might have put on your computer...just before getting the update notice? It sure would be nice to know where that "conflict" is.

Laura, the hammer is tempting for sure LOL Once you use Mozilla you will never use anything else. It is so much quicker, so much more user friendly I think it is a great program until that last download. I have had real headaches with it recently.
Something is corrupt somewhere.

When you get your problem resolved, tell me more about Mozilla. I've heard of it, but don't know too much about it. All I know is the little "e" on the bottom of my screen to go on the internet. Do you have windows Vista? It seems like everytime they update windows or mcafee, something goes screwy on this comeputer, then you have to spend a week to figure out what they did so you can fix it. Calling for tech support is no help. Either they want to charge you big bucks by the minute or direct you to their useless tech support online who don't know what they're talking about.

Hello Laura you can download Firefox at http://tinyurl.com/3yqdou
It is so much faster than Internet Explorer and so much more user friendly. It has the tabbed browsing, Microsoft stole the idea from Mozilla but they didnt make a good job of it. No you dont have to have vista. I have XP but you can use with with other operating systems too. Check the website it will tell you.The other thing I would suggest if you are not happy with you Anti Virus....what about changing.? I use the free edition of AVG. If you are interested, let me know. I know what you mean about the support this is why you have to try to solve things yourself. My ISP has online chat to help the only problem is it is always busy and difficult to get someone yo have to spend ages trying. If I can be of any more help let me know.

I'll have to look into it. It has to be something Larry can understand to use, because he needs something really easy. Right now, I'm trying to figure out what happened to my cat wall paper on my page. I still have it on my custom theme, but it isn't showing on my page.

Laura I think there is a lot of weird things going on at the moment.
I tried to post As Time Goes By, it kept telling me it didnt post, and now the posts are so mixed I am having to try to rescue them by adding this into three.
Larry will find it easy believe me. Thousands of people use the program. Tell him to email me if he has a question. Laura, I can see your cat wallpaper...it is there. Obviously there is something wrong with your browser. Clear all the history, empty the cache and reboot, oh and delete the cookies too. When you come back online the wallpaper should be there.

I had to make sure mine was still active...and I went to redo the whole scheme just to get the wallpaper to reappear...

My computer was a bit sluggish for a while...and found out a defrag took care of about 90% of it... The other 10% was in a deleted program that was just dragging its feet...so to speak...

Will do.
outofwork2 wrote on Oct 2, '07
It worked. Thank you. (Big giant smile for you)

LVC...I didnt realise you were also having computer problems...its nice to know I am not alone.
It is annoying when it is something quite simple. Remember that green square which covered the front of my guest book entrance, it was from myspace glitters....well my browser just shuts down if there is something from that place LOL
scottishps wrote on Oct 2, '07
Laura, I am pleased....at least IE is working for you at present but it is handy to have an extra browser. I guess it saved you a lot of time. If you have an extra browser these are things you can check....as one shows different to the other. I am sure between us we can twist Larry's arm LOL
outofwork2 wrote on Oct 2, '07
You seem to be quite knowledgeable about computers. A lot more than I. Did you go to school for this or just picked it up as you encountered it? I'm sure you'll figure out what's going on with your browser. If not, there's that hammer. :-)

Laura I help where I can. Put it this way, what I have learned it through all the problems I previously had. When you have a computer and not very good tech support you are forced to learn a lot....howver there is a lot I dont know. At the moment my browser is working. I ran a registry clean and cleared everything as I instructed you, and rebooted my computer and it is working. I shall keep the hammer in mind, maybe that is why it is working again ...it knows it is under threat LOL

Right now I am trying to decide if I want to cook acorn squash for dinner.
gilinaz wrote on Oct 2, '07
Laura....how about some zucchini covered with melted cheese? (smile)

I think in another six hours my chili should be done... Wonder if I should add a fourth habanero to it...or just keep it mild...
scottishps wrote on Oct 2, '07
I dont know how you can eat things so hot and spicy. Do you not get tears in your eyes when you eat your chilli? LOL

Ok I am looking for a good recipe for pumpkin soup? Alex made it last year for me, and he never took a note of what he used or the amounts so I shall have to start from scratch.

Meant to say, I have been trying to upload for the past three hours and I cannot get anything to upload....it goes through the motions then sticks.....I guess there are too many people online.

Is anyone else having this problem?
gilinaz wrote on Oct 2, '07
Paula...is that why you had to upload "As Time Goes By" in increments, instead of all at once? (smile)

At times I'm afraid to pass gas anywhere near this apartment after eating chili...or Kung Pao Chicken in fear that the entire fire alarm system will go off...
scottishps wrote on Oct 2, '07
ROFLOLOL...oh you are a tonic!!!!! Does everyone give you a wide berth? I hope you dont eat anything like that when you are on the kettles.....LOLOL
scottishps wrote on Oct 2, '07
Gil, oh did you see the mess of my upload. I even had other dupicates but I could not get them in order. My computer would tell me it was still uploading when in fact it had uploaded. I hope it doesnt look too bad.

I was going to make zucchini bread. I just came back from the market with acorn squash. We bake the squash with butter and brown sugar (I prefer maple syrup, but I don't have any and the store I went to didn't sell it.) I like to eat jalapino peppers when my sinuses bug me. They help a lot. Gil, what happened to the site with the soundtracks. When I came back, wouldn't let me finish looking at them.. I wonder if we did a search like what Catfreak talked about, could we find more. Most of them seem to be at hyperfileshare.com.
gilinaz wrote on Oct 2, '07
Paula...no, I got all 20 episodes (smile). But...when this happens it's like "That must be all there is...Wait!...no, here's more" (smile)

Gil
gilinaz wrote on Oct 2, '07
Laura...do you mean "La Leyenda De Los Soundtracks"? I think this guy is from Chili (South America)...but he sure has a great collection gathered! What did you mean by "it wouldn't let you finish looking at them"? There are some other blogs I visit, which also have soundtracks...but they haven't changed their entries in quite some time. I was getting some great music at one (blog) called "Green-Eyed Lady", and now it's been closed down. There's another good one called "Singin' and Swingin'"..which is still active.
There was once a blog called "Ibiza's", which had classical on it...but it was shut down some time ago

The first time I went I saw all the goodies they had to offer, no problems. When I came back from the store, I went back to the page and got a message that you had to be a member and wouldn't let me in. He sure does have a nice collection. I'd like to find the sound track to Dr. Zhvago and West Side Story.

2001 is another one I'd like.
gilinaz wrote on Oct 2, '07
Laura...he seems to have just closed his site. I went there, and signed in with my blog name...but it said I hadn't been "invited" to his blog. The problem is, I don't know where to go, for the invite. There's no place open for a "request"!

Gil
outofwork2 wrote on Oct 2, '07
Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. Do you know any others?
gilinaz wrote on Oct 2, '07
I've been trying to find a list for "soundtrack blogs", but can't seem to locate a very substantial one. Anyone got any ideas? I'm just trying to get them all together, in one listing.

Gil
outofwork2 wrote on Oct 2, '07
If I think of anything I will pm to you.
gilinaz wrote on Oct 2, '07
Laura...I have a few that I access...but getting them listed here would take awhile. That's why I need an "already to go" listing, so that I can place it here for perusal. As I said, before...MANY of those I visit haven't changed in quite some time...that is, they haven't added anything new.

Gil
outofwork2 wrote on Oct 2, '07
What about cut and paste, would that make the list quicker to develop.
gilinaz wrote on Oct 2, '07
Laura...that would be OK, if they were in one location...but I'd have to cut/paste the URL from each site...and that would take too long. It's hard to cut/paste a bunch of things in succession like that, when it has to be a "one-two", "one-two" process.

How is your computer working now. I hope you were able to resolve your problem with your browser. If not, don't forget about the hammer.LOL.
scottishps wrote on Oct 13, '07
Larry believe me the hammer is very tempting LOL I am still having problems with my browswer. I am now using Internet Explorer, as Mozilla keeps packing up on me....The reason I dont do a clean restore is because I have programs which I got on the website giveawayoftheday and once they are run you cannot add them...you can only do this the 24 horus they are given free. It is worth a look if you havent already checked it out. I have the link to this on my links page.
lucklesscouple wrote on Oct 13, '07
Maybe you need Godzilla for your web browser.LOL
scottishps wrote on Oct 13, '07
HAHAHAHA...I think it has to be something like that. One minute it works, the next it doesnt. It is such a great browser....have you tried it? I dont think you would use IE if you did.

Janis,
Sounds like they deleted straight off your computer. Now there is certain software that some computer tech guys use which can in fact recover files. Do you know of anyone who lives closeby? The friend who built my computer did manage to salvage files for a lady who lost all her notes from college, this is how I know that they can be recovered. I couldnt recover anything myself as I dont have the software required but if you lost a lot, then it would be worth your while...or at least phone and ask how much it would cost. Hope this helps.

Paula
