Blog EntryWhy you have not heard - Computer problems.Sep 24, '07 10:56 AM
for everyone
Hello my friends,

I am sorry if I have not been in touch recently.  I have had to spend a lot of time getting my computer sorted out as there was a problem wtih my browser.  I lost a lot of the extensions and had to go searching for them again.   I thought I had things fixed only to find out that my private email and my email on my groups  has not been getting through and some of my mail is being returned to the senders.  It is very time consuming trying to check everything out and getting in touch with everyone concered as you can appreciate.

Computers are marvellous machines when they work, but when they give you problems I am sure you are like me and can see them far enough.

Hopefully I shall be back later today once I contact everyone concerned.

Hope you all had a lovely weekend.

Paula

Thank you Laura. I have managed to get Mozilla up and running but I have had to hunt down all the extensions I had. Luckily I saved my bookmarks. I could not download anything and it was a corrupt proflie which was the cause. Now I have just been informed that my email to my lists and private mail have not been received although I did know some were having problems sending me mail.

I hope all is well with you.

Paula....what do you mean by "extensions"?

Gil

Mozilla has a lot of add on extensions. Tiny url is one, there are a lot of others. There is Reminder Fox, McAfee Site Advisor there are quite a number. No doubt you already have them.

Gil I have since heard that LOTS of people have been having problems with the last download from Mozilla. Make sure all your extensions are work ok.

Paula...I think they are called "Add Ons". I don't have too many with Firefox. Do you use your's quite a bit? I know you can add audio players (not sure how many)...but I just use the separate ones I have...I don't need any extras (smile).

Paula...I guess my main one would be "Download Accelerator Plus", known as "DAP".

Gil

Gil I only add what is needed. Adblock plus is good as is Cooliris preview.... I have a music player which I got with my speakers and I use Media Player. Oh I have Quicktime but dont like it as it tends to default.

I have never even looked up DAP, what at the features and advantages about the program?
Paula

Paula...well, DAP is a bulk downloader program. It only works well, if the downloads are "direct downloads". Remember...I tried to use it on Multiply? It worked there...for awhile...but think Multiply changed things. I can still use on the Jolly Boys, at 154, however.

still have your otr? hope you fine everything.

Gil I remember someone else remarking about the program. I use merely Mozilla and nothing else but it is an idea which I shall keep in mind. thank you

Major Shaw, I have everything. It was Mozilla which stopped allowing me to download anything. There was an update recently and since I have had the problem I have heard of many people who have had problems. Apparently the profile was corrupt so I had to change this and lost all my extensions so it took a bit of time installing them all again, plus all the mucking about installing and uninstall the program beforehand.

Thankfully I have all my OTR. That would have been awful as I have not yet backed things up to DVD....that is something which I shall most definately have to do very soon.

Paula...well, I was hoping I could have used it on MediaFire...but it doesn't have direct links. I think someone mentioned about being able to use it there...but think they had the
premium version.

Gil

Gil are you talking about DAP? Why can't you use it on Mediafire?

Paula
gilinaz wrote on Sep 25, '07, edited on Sep 25, '07
Paula...yes, DAP. Mediafire doesn't have direct downloads. As I said...someone mentioned using it, if you have the premium version of DAP, for bulk downloading, on Mediafire...but I don't have the premium version.

Gil I thought Mediafire was a good site for downloading...I havent had any problems to day. However someone downloaded files on Mediamax for me to download they are in my folder, but I cannot access them.
Paula

Paula...I've given up trying to download my files, from MediaMax. I can see them...I just can't download them.

Gil
scottishps wrote on Sep 26, '07
Gil that is the same with me. It is a dreadful website. I remember I wrote to them twice and never heard a word, not even an acknowledgement. I dont know why people even use that site. I think if they carry on like this they will soon close down.

Paula
gilinaz wrote on Sep 26, '07
Paula...well, it was better when it was known as "Streamload".

Gil
scottishps wrote on Sep 26, '07
Gil I didnt know it when it was called that. The name sounds much nicer was it a good site back then?

Paula
gilinaz wrote on Sep 26, '07
Paula..well, "Streamload" had it's problems...but nothing like it is now! We were able to access our files, download files (using their Streamload bulk downloader), etc. The only problem, as I recall...some of the files were no good, and we had to replace them..but, other than that, everything was OK. We were sending out files, to other Streamloaders, like you wouldn't believe! (smile) All of us really miss that service! We still don't know WHY they had to change a good thing!

Gil I dont know how MediaMax are getting away with it. I havent heard a good report from anyone. Yes when things are good, they are very sorely missed. Lets hope someone else may take over MM that way the service can only improve.

Paula
gilinaz wrote on Sep 26, '07
Paula...yes, we'd all like to see someone else take it over...but who...and who would want to get the responsibility (when they've made such a mess of it)??

Gil
scottishps wrote on Sep 27, '07
Gil there is bound to be someone out there who is knowledgeable and know what they are doing.

Paula
gilinaz wrote on Sep 27, '07
Paula...well, let's hope so. This has been going on for too long, now!

Hello Janis,
I shall help you if I can. What problems are you having? I rectified my problems by using an old version of Mozilla Firefox and this does not close down on me.
