Blog EntryThe Saga of the Computer contd.Oct 19, '07 5:44 PM
for everyone
Hello everyone,

Well I am back online at last. However I am disappointed  as  once again I have the problem with my mouse and my keyboard not working when I reboot.   However I have come to the conclusion it has something to do with Mozilla so I intend removing it from my computer to see if this makes a difference.  I can't believe I didnt think  of this before giving myself so much work.  Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

It is nice to be back once again.  Let's hope using Internet Explorer resolves my problems.   If anyone else has had problems with their mouse and keyboard, please let me know.

Thank you

Paula

Well...I found out that, since I don't have Outlook Express attached to my Firefox browser, each time I get a Multiply link, in my e-mail, it makes me use the IE downloader, instead of the Firefox downloader (smile).

What a headache. I'm glad you're back online.

Gil sounds like there is an incompatibility with Firefox. We all live in different areas and I am sure we all get different downloads. Looks like I shall have to wait for the next update which hopefully should resolve thngs.

paula, try unpluging both keyboard and mouse after you shut it down, then boot it up plug in mouse, it should see it, if so then keyboard. if you've installed any mouse or keyboard software, remove it first through add/remove. if you like another broswer, i use sea monkee. better than firefox, same people make it.

Laura where did you find that photo of me LOL That is just how I felt yesterday.
scottishps wrote on Oct 20, '07
Theo I can give that a try. I have no software for either installed. Would you believe it all started after Firefox had the last download and it was as progressive sprial from there.
Does Sea Monkee have tabbed browsing? Have you tried Firefox how do they compare?
Thank you for the suggestions

When I saw that picture, my first thought was your dilemma.

Laura you couldnt have gotten anything more appropriate....I appreciate it....I shall always keep that in mind when this computer plays up....

Paula, this is a cute picture, but you must remember if you don't laugh, you'll cry and short out your computer.

Larry, Oh I told Laura that it was a picture of me LOL Oh I know that...after all it is only a machine....so dont worry I wouldnt want to short out my computer...that would give it a reason to quit altogether. Oh talking of that...when I got online yesterday, my computer switched off....I thought it had died on me...however it turned out to be the UPS it had switched itself off and of course the computer too....boy it was as bad as switching it off without any warning. Maybe it now knows I am not joking about the hammer LOL

the hammer works with me at work lol.i work with a large network system ,and it may not be the threat of the hammer that usally solves the problem.but it sure feels good to think it does lol.

I think it has certainly helped Larrry. After all maybe thats where they learn their place....and they are vulnerable to folks who have a hammer.
Scare tactics often work LOL I know what you mean it does feel good. I have been through so much over the years with this computer...but in saying that....I have heard a lot worse from others so it is not all bleak news

Paula, your pc shouldn't switch off with your ups. The whole point of having a ups is to prevent that kind of switchoff, so that you have time to shut everything down carefully before powering off. A good ups should give you about 15 minutes to shut down.

Check to see if there are driver updates for your mouse and keyboard. That could cause grief too. Did uninstalling firefox work then?

Tint I discovered that it was because I had another battery and the old copy of my hard drive had the old battery. I received a message to ask if my battery had been updated and not right away but some time later, that is when it shut down. So far, touch wood has been ok. You are one of the few people who know about UPS. Do you have one yourself?

I dont have any software for my mouse or keyboard...at least I cannot find it, I have always managed without it...however in saying that they are Microsoft and you know of my "allergy" to them LOL

When I did a restore, there was an old version of Firefox on there so I have left it on and unticked the boxes so I dont get an automatic update ...thats what happened last time. I changed my user profile and did all sorts to the new version of Firefox but it didnt work.

Thank you for your concerns...they are appreciated.
