Hello Everyone, I wanted to let you know if you dont see me tomorrow, it is becasue I shall have to format my hard drive. I cannot get online for long before my browsers close. When I reboot my computer my PS/2 mouse and keyboard don't work. I have had to reboot four times to get online just now. I have delayed doing this as I shall lose a number of programs from GiveawayoftheDay which I had to run the day they were downloaded. A hammer has come to mind, but I think I had better try to sort things out. I don't know where the fault lies, but I do hope that this will sort things out. Mozilla didn't work initially, however now Internet Explorer just closes down when I try to open a web page. Computers are great when they are working but they are a real headache when there is a problem.
 | Sorry to hear that Paula.
I hope that things move along okay otherwise.
Looking forward to seeing you online again soon!

 | As some politician once said "I feeeeeeeel yore pain!" I hope the reformat goes smoothly. |
 | paula i feel for you. have you tried to compeletly shut down your system, for say an hour or so.i see my wife says not the hammer, but i don't know if even the hammer would work . lol. |
 | Stop using giveaway of the day.......
Ian |
 | Good morning, or should I say good afternoon. Did you make any progress yet? Did you check to see if you had any viruses or spyware knocking your computer down? |
 | Ian...yeah, it could be that "Giveaway" has some type of virus, or spyware, that is causing Paula's problem. I just installed a newer free version of DAP (Download Accelerator Plus), and keep getting a message that there is some type of spyware attached. When I had an older version, I never used to get this message. So far, I haven't had any problems, and it seems to be working just like before. But...as someone told me, the "protection programs" don't always "catch" everything...so, maybe they didn't catch something, in Paula's case. IF her browsers were working, before, and now they're not...then something surely was added.

 | I wish there was someway consumers could go after these companies for vandalism for the spyware and malware we don't want. |
 | Larry...yeah, why...all of a sudden...does DAP have a spyware attached? Sounds to me like DAP didn't have their spy program running, when the new version was conceived (smile).

 | I noticed that on a lot of these screen saver programs, they have adware in them, then you have to go and remove the adware program after you put on the screen saver. It's almost not worth the trouble. I've never used download accelerators. When I had my old computer, I used to have weather and webshots on it, but was later told they had spyware, so I quit using them. I wonder what kind of stuff they have in mediafire and those kind of places. People get to use free stuff, but how free is it really. |
 | Laura...I also had Webshots and a weather program, on my Windows ME computer. The only problem with Webshots was that you had to have their program to view the pictures...and, you couldn't access individual pictures, in case you wanted to save them to a folder, etc.
Gil |
 | They had some real pretty pictures. The tech at Comcast told me about the spyware stuff on the weatherbug. |
 | Hello Everyone, Thank you all for your concerns and kind remarks I have not yet managed to format my drive. I had a friend today who hindered me so I was late in getting started. I have been copying so many things over to my partitioned drive and it is amazing just how much time it takes. Laura....I was tempted to get the hammer believe me LOL
Radar thank you, you know the problems I have had and they are now worse so I am forced into doing this.
MisterX thank you, you sound as though you have been there before yourself. It is not a nice situation as you will know but it will be worth it to have my computer up and running instead of both browsers closing down on me.
Larry I have switched my computer off overnight and often have found this is when I cannot get my PS/2 mouse or my keyboard to work. I have to use a USB mouse to reboot the computer but at four times before success it gets a bit much.
Ian, what have you against giveawayoftheday.? I shall miss some of these programs. They do have a lot of good things and I have had some programs for a long time and they havent given me any problems at all. I dont think they could continue if the programs caused problems. Have you tried any yoruself?
Gil I dont think or believe my problems have anything to do with giveawayoftheday. I thnk I have come out in sympathy with yourself and your problems. (smile)
I shall let you all know how things go tomorrow.
Thanks again everyone, your support is much appreciated.

 | With the exception of Linux I never use free software simply because of problems experienced in the past. The same can be said of Glitter graphics, most of which contain hidden links to rouge websites that are very likely to ruin your blog page. It recently happened to mine, and I needed help from Multiply to save it, hence, no guestbook on it. Rob. |
 | Hello Rob I know what you mean about the glitter graphics. I use Firefox and sometimes I have to change to IE as I get thrown offline with the glitter graphics. I habe been paying attention to this...and IE doesnt appear to have a problem but Firefox is very sensitive that way. I can understand about your decision with your guestbook. I have thought of leaving a message as my page gets really distorted with some of them.

 | I must have a look at your blog. You already told me of the problems you had encountered. It is such a pity as I think people post them because it is Christmas plus it is a way for people in different parts of the world to communicate. I can see both sides. |
 | Yes, it is a problem when so many users do not really understand English, and that Multiply choose only to post their warnings in English. The problem with these greeting cards is that so many are sponsored, as in most things nothing comes free in life. This problem did not exist until the Guestbbok was introduced, prior to that we were able to communicate on the PM section in peace and privacy. These days some users leave personal messages in the guestbook which in my mind is not so smart, as they can be seen by all other contacts, therefore are not private at all.
Have a nice day. Rob (John) |
 | Mulitiply are doing a lot of work I dont know if you have checked out your videos recently. They are completely dfferent and I notice that the other videos run below so you can see exactly what is there on the site. Looks real good.
Multiply dont warn about changes even in English sometimes. There are websites with graphics and websites...and it is a case of looking around. Some do invade privacy I agree, they place a banner or a green square on the entrance to the guestbook so that if you try to leave a message it takes you to their page instead.
I think more people should use the PM when leaving messages...the Guestbook is ok for a few words but that is all.
Have a nice evening Paula |
